Communications loss between Golden Casket’s host server and their independent agency terminals if the ADSL connection goes down

Solution

To supply an alternative communications link from their agencies back to the host server.

Golden Casket is Queensland’s official lotteries administrator generating revenues in excess of $838 million per year (2006) from the sale of lottery tickets through its network of independent agencies typically found in news agencies spread out all over Queensland.

Golden Caskets concern was in the exposure they had if their ADSL communications links to their agencies were temporarily lost resulting in the loss of revenue as no lotteries tickets could be sold during this outage.

The solution was to install at each agency site an alternative communications link. This was achieved by connecting a CDM-882seu on to the existing CISCO ADSL router.

By monitoring the ADSL connection if the communications were lost, the CDM-882seu would automatically carry the data out over the Next G network until the primary ADSL communications link was restored.

By using the CDM-882seu and Telstra’s Next G network Golden Casket now feel they have a quality disaster recovery solution in place to manage those times none of us wish to think about.
